The Upper School

Grades 9 - 12

Our Upper School curriculum combines the timeless principles of classical education with modern teaching techniques to prepare high school students for college, career, and life. Grounded in the Trivium—Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric—this curriculum builds students’ skills in critical thinking, clear communication, and analytical reasoning, while incorporating project-based learning, technology, and collaborative opportunities to ensure engagement and relevance. By studying classical literature, history, philosophy, and the sciences alongside contemporary subjects and hands-on learning experiences, students develop a rich understanding of the world and its complexities. Emphasis is placed on developing problem-solving skills, adaptability, and resilience, all within a framework that fosters intellectual curiosity, creativity, and personal growth. This curriculum helps students not only excel academically but also become confident, well-prepared human beings, ready to navigate higher education, a changing workforce, and meaningful leadership in their families and communities.

The Lyceum Program

A cornerstone of all full-time student experiences, our Lyceum program sets us apart. Designed to offer personalized academic support and enrichment by pairing students one-on-one with a teacher, through this tailored approach, students receive focused tutoring in areas of need, as well as the opportunity for special study and intellectual enrichment. Whether working on specific subjects, exploring advanced topics, or deepening their understanding of the classics, students benefit from the teacher’s guidance, mentorship, and individualized attention. This one-on-one setting fosters a strong student-teacher relationship, encourages intellectual curiosity, and allows students to move at their own pace, ensuring they reach their fullest potential. Ideal for learners seeking an extra layer of academic challenge, personalized assistance, or a deeper exploration of their interests, Lyceum provides the space and expertise for students to thrive both academically and personally.

The Lyceum Process

When school begins in the Fall, each student at TSS is assigned a weekly Lyceum time with a teacher that specializes in their subject of interest. Times are coordinated by the school director as not to interfere with the student’s other classes or important group studies.
